Veterans Day Parade At Havana

Coffeyville Cubs have once again been invited to participate in the annual Havana Veterans Day celebration on 11/7/09 from 9 to ?. Transportation can be arranged. Further details will be available at the Fall Party.

Scouting For Food

Our annual Scouting For Food event will take place in front of Country Mart on Saturday 10/24 from 1-3 pm. This event will gather food for the Community Food Bank and is a great opportunity to "Do A Good Turn". Please wear uniforms if you have one. See you there.

Fall Party

Packs 5 and 48 will have a combined Fall Party at First Southern Baptist Church on 10/22. The fun starts at 5:30, but parents and cubs wanting to show up early at 5:00 to assist in set up are welcome. This will NOT be a sleepover as was previously announced - we anticipate being done around 10-10:30. Planned activities include casting, fish identification,bobbing for apples, pumpkin decorating (carving for the Webelos), tent pitching, snacks and a movie.

Fun With Son

9/18-9/19 For those wanting to leave early, we will meet at First Southern Baptist Church on Saturday 9/19 at 0815. Please bring your gear, a sack lunch, and physical forms. For those Cubs with football/soccer that morning you may leave for QSR as soon as games are over, but there will be no organized carpool. Maps and directions are attached. I will go ahead and check-in those arriving late, so you should be able to go straight to our campsite and set-up. As campsites are claimed on a first-come-first-serve basis, I cannot tell you which site we will be camping in, but will probably try to be near the watertower.

Raingutter Regatta

9/28 at First Southern Baptist Church. Meet at 6pm. Please bring your completed boats and a dozen homemade or store-bought cookies for snacks after the races.

Popcorn Sales

If there is enough interest, we will hold our Popcorn Sale Kickoff next meeting 9/21. This is an opportunity to raise money for our pack and council and for the boys to earn prizes and credits towards future camps. Prizes will also be awarded for the top three sellers in our pack.

Scouting For Food

Will be held October 24th from 9-11 in front of Country Mart. Please wear uniform if possible.

Quivira Council Patch Contest

In honor of BSA’s 100th anniversary, our council is sponsoring a contest to design a commemorative patch. The winner will have his patch reproduced for distribution to all council Scouts and leaders and receive a $30 prize. Parents may help with the design. More details are will be distributed at the next meeting.

After a summer off, it's time to get back into Scouting! Welcome back to both our returning scouts and our new members. The blog is a bit out of date, since I havent been posting through the summer, but I'll be working hard to refresh it over the next few weeks, so check back frequently. (More) Cub Scout Fishing.

The annual Cub Scout Fishing Derby will be held (weather permitting) at Hidden Lakes on Saturday 5/2 from 11:00 to 1:00. Bring your own fishing gear,lawn chairs and a side dish,chips,drink or dessert. Hot dogs and chips will be provided.

Elk City Hike

Due to scheduling issues and preparations for Cub Scout Day Camp, the hike at Elk City Reservoir scheduled for 5/23 has been cancelled. We may try to reschedule later in the fall.

CRC Fishing Derby

Cubs, parents, frinds, and family are encouraged to attend the Coffeyville Rec Commission Fishing Derby on Sunday, April 26th at LeClere Park. Registration is from 1:00 to 1:30 and there is no entrance fee. We will have a table set up to register boys and parents interested in joining Scouting. Those who register will be eligible tomparticipate in Day Camp in June. See you there.

No Meeting 3/23

Due to Spring Break in the Coffeyville school system, Pack 48 will not meet on 3/23.

Law Enforcement Presentation

Pack 48 will host a visit by Officer Rutherford of the Coffeyville Police Department at the First Presbyterian Church on 3/9/09 at 7pm. He will discuss law enforcement and child safety for approx. 20-30 min. Cubs from both Packs 48 and 5 are invited.

Pinewood Derby

Pinewood Derby will be held at First Presbyterian Church 3/30/09. Car kits were handed out to all Cubs attending the 3/2 meeting and I still have a few left. If you did not attend the meeting and need a kit please contact me.

Underwear for Africa Update

Due to meeting cancellations and holidays, the deadline for turning in new, unused underwear for underpriveleged African children has been extended. If you wish to participate, new unopened packs of either boys or girls underwear may me turned in to me anytime before Friday 2/20. Remember, the winner turning in the most underwear by that date will win a new Nintendo DS!!!

Blue And Gold Banquet

Blue And Gold Banquet will be held at First Southern Baptist Church 2/23/09 at 5:30. Main course will be provided, but please bring a side dish and a cake for auction. Cakes will be judged and if possible should have a Wild West/Frontier theme. We had originally planned to hand out awards, but due to recent events, this may be delayed until a later date.

No Meeting 2/16

Due to the Presidents Day holiday, Pack 48 will not meet this Monday 2/16/09. Next meeting will be the Blue and Gold Banquet at FSBC on 2/23.

R.I.P. Jack Pendleton (1928-2009)

Cubpack 48, Coffeyville scouting, and all local BSA have had a profound and saddening shock this week, as Jack Pendleton passed away unexpectedly at home on Feb 8th. Jack was a tremendous supporter and friend of Scouting, having served as Pack 48 Secretary/Treasurer for many years.I had the privelege of attending Jack's funeral service last Wednesday, and it was an inspirational and moving ceremony with many Scouters attending in uniform. Jack was an invaluable asset to our pack and to Scouting in general and will be sorely missed. Please keep Maryann, Dona, and all of Jack's family in your thoughts and prayers.

Osage Nation Spring Camporee

April 17th-19th is the Osage Nation Spring Camporee. It will be held at the Wilson County Old Iron Club Grounds. This is going to be an awesome weekend. Fees will be $20.00 for registration plus $7.00 if you want a shirt. This will be a Webelos camporee with Troop 5 and Webeleos 1 and 2 from Packs 5 and 48 all camping together. More details later.

Blue And Gold Banquet

Blue and Gold Banquet will be 2/23. We will be doing a cake auction again this year with a Wild West theme.

Underwear For Africa

This is a new project to collect new, unopened packs of children's and young adult's underwear to be distributed throughout Africa. This is our chance to help others! The underwear drive will run from 1/12 ubtil the Blue and Golf Banquet on 2/23. Each boy is to bring his packages in a sack with his name on the sack (not the underwear package) so they can be tallied up. Both Packs 5 and 48 will participate. The winner of teh drive will be awarded a new Nintendo DS!!!

Space Derby

Space Derby will be held at First Southern Baptist Church on 1/26. Refreshments will be served.
